ROSCOBY RISER CAM COMES TO AM OUTDOORS 10/4/08

Have you ever wanted to be part of your own outdoors television show? Well, an Ann Arbor company has brought the average outdoorsman a little closer. This Saturday we will speak to the manufacturers of the Roscoby Riser Cam. A digital camera that attaches to your bow in the same position as that of your stabilizer.

We’ll also take your calls and share stories of your bow season and cover the recent youth hunt here in Michigan.

And if you thought the fight over CWD in Michigan was over. Think again. It’s starting to heat up as the store owners and farmers that sell the corn, sugar beets and carrots as bait for deer hunters, enter a court battle over the ban on baiting.

The battle of words heats up as well. Outdoor writers in Michigan newspapers are taking heat for their columns. Writers and columnists receive heated emails over their stance on baiting and what is right for the state of Michigan.

Although my opinion has been stated before, it still has not changed. Taking a stance when you see the points of both sides makes for a difficult position. Let’s just say, I’m a little on the fence and leaning one way. And most of you now which way that is.

NEW AFFILIATE JOINS  AM OUTDOORS

Starting Sunday September 21, AM Outdoors welcomes 1450 AM WKLA to the AM Outdoors Family.

Were proud to have the Ludington area join us, especially as we head into fall with Salmon and Walleye making their way to the rivers.

FITTING LINE UP

Since we are welcoming a new affiliate, I figured it would be fitting to have Captain Michael Tilman from Tilman Outfitters join us to talk about Lake Michigan fishing and the steelhead getting ready to run in the Muskegon river. We’ll also talk to Lance Valentine from Walleye 101.  Also, as we approach National Fishing and Hunting day in the US, we’ll find out how to get more people involved with the true American Family Past time, the outdoors.

ON THE ROAD

This weekend should be beautiful! If you get the chance, I’ll be at Signature Ford on Lansing Rd. in Perry from 10:00 to 4:oo. Denny Emmer and the Crew will have an outdoors expo of sorts. Wolf Creek’s Steve Gruber will be on hand and lot’s of other outdoors guests and enthusiasts will be on hand as well.

3-D SHOOT

Also this weekend, Thorny Acres Archery Club will have their last 3-D shoot for the year. I will be out there with Jerry and the folks from about 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm. Thorny Acres is located in Elsie. A great time will be had for sure. Hope to see you at either event.

NRC TO MEET 9/11/08

Posted in General Outdoors by Duran on the September 10th, 2008

Natural Resources Commission to meet on September 11, 2008

Michigan’s NRC will have their monthly meeting this Thursday, September 11th to discuss the current state of affairs for Michigan’s natural resources as well as talk about the current issue that has been all of the buzz, CWD.

Now, I don’t expect to lift the ban on baiting and feeding in the Lower Peninsula, but I am sure that there will be much discussion that revolves around it.

When the directive was put into effect a few weeks back, many concerns were raised about the immediate impact on Michigan’s 1.6 billion dollar outdoors industry relating to hunting and fishing.

Without question, the immediate impact is being felt all over. Meijer stores for one have pulled any bait or baiting materials from their shelves. Understandable to a degree. With the knowledge that Michigan hunter’s and deer enthusiasts cannot feed nor bait whitetail deer. What sense would there be to invest and or sell product that is sometimes used for such purposes. At the same time, there is no ban on the sale of said products, only the restricted use. On the same note, whose to say that said product would not be making it’s way to the U.P. for hunting purposes there.

I am not trying to encourage the criminal element, only playing devil’s advocate to the possibilities of carrying that particular product. People are going to bait regardless. It’s a fact.

ON THE OTHER HAND

The long term impact  CWD could have on Michigan’s impact could far outweigh the initial damage of a temporary ban on feeding and baiting.

CWD Could decimate a herd an leave it to absolutely nothing. Causing Michigan to lose more licensed hunters than we already have lost. Costing us revenue normally made by those who make a good portion of their  living from out of state visitors that make their way to Michigan every year during this magical season.

As we have all learned, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” I guess we’ll see if this bit of prevention was worthy of it, or if it was like putting a tourniquet on a paper cut.

AM OUTDOORS WELCOMES GRIM REAPER

GRIM REAPER “RAZOR TIP”

AM OUTDOORS WELCOMES GRIM REAPER (BROADHEADS)

Since I was first introduced to Grim Reaper Broadheads by my good friend Tom Nelson, I have had a great respect for this mechanical broadhead.

Now keep in mind, what I use may not be right for you. I just give you the information on what I have used and how they work for me. As far as broadheads go, everyone has their favorite. From Muzzy, to G5, to Thunderhead. Everyone has what they like. And not everybody is sold on mechanical broadheads.

THE PITCH

Now the pitch. Ahem, I use Grim Reaper Broadheads because…they work for me. The type in question are the 100 gr. Razorcut. With a solid “Trocrazor” tip (Trocar:Fr. Three sided) (Razor: Really. I don’t think I have to explain this part) and three razor sharp blades that expand to 1 - 3/8″ inches.  I’ll save all of the technical stuff for their site at www.grimreaperbroadheads.com

WHY WE CARE

The reason for all of the hype is because of much badgering and pleading, Matt and the gang at Grim Reaper have conceded to letting me become a member of their media staff. A huge victory for AM Outdoors because we were going to shoot their broadheads either way. This is just easier to get the good word out. We work hard for every harvest and are proud of the work we do on the show. Were also proud that Grim Reaper Broadheads have seen us to be worthy of having their name attached to what we have worked very hard to accomplish. So thanks for making me a member of the Media Staff for Grim Reaper Broadheads.
