DURAN’S NEW OBSESSION IN CLOTHING
With an unsolicited opinion and a slight biased towards Mossy Oak brand camo, The Obsession has reached new heights.
In January of this year I had the opportunity to visit the Archery Trade Association show in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The ATA is for all of those in the archery industry who sell, manufacture or like myself, are in the outdoors media.
Having visited a couple of hundred different manufacturers, I was drawn like a bug to a light to a new camoflage pattern I have never seen before. A pattern that features an interesting blend of greys, greens and browms like I had never seen.
After finding out that this new pattern was a new design of Mossy Oak, I found myself having spent a couple of thousand dollars on equipment that had not been produced yet.
This new pattern seems to excel where other camo patterns have fallen short. For Michigan we are very familiar with indigenous mosses and types of fungus that affect our natural flora.
It seems that Toxey Haas and his group have paid attention to these things as well. With a blend of the same white and greys that seem to mimic that of a rotting or moss covered limb.
Not all trees are perfect and that is why I think that the new treestand will take the hunting world by storm this summer when the new items hit the racks of retail stores everywhere.
Dare I say that even the most die hard Realtree fan might even jump ship from their HD to Treestand. Sorry Mr. Jordan, strike another one up for Mossy Oak!
And just so everyone knows, I am not sponsored by any manufacturer or devloper of any camoflage pattern. Mossy Oak has always been my first choice for where I hunt. This may not always be the right application for you. Research and make an informed decision that will work for you.

FINALLY SPRING!
With the tease of sprng in the air, thoughts towards spring turkey season, steelhead and walleye, dance around our heads like sugarplums at Christmas.
The thought of landing a “Michigan Monster” or bagging a strutting Tom, quickens the pulse like that of a big buck under your treestand on a warm autumn day.
This is the time that we need to make sure all of our gear is ready to go. Respooling your reels and cleaning out the tackle box are just a few steps we need to take to ensure that our trips to the icy rivers are not spent in disappointment. Taking the time to do even the smallest things can make an opening day that much more enjoyable despite getting skunked.
We all know that mother nature will always have the upperhand. Do you think Michigan’s turkey population would have exploded to it’s current point by accident? Like my good friend Steve Gruber says; “If turkey’s could smell us, we would never have a chance!”
So take a few minutes to make sure everything is in order now before you take to the woods or waters of Michigan.
And when you do go, whenever possible, take the kids with you and educate them. They are truly the future of our outdoors heritage.
