This Weeks Show 8/28 - 8/29
THIS WEEKS SHOW

WALLEYE 101 - Mark VanKampen
Walleye fishing this year can be summed up in one word. “Phenomenal!” Walleye fishing reports from the guys at Walleye 101 have been the same all year long. Fishing has been on fire from the Detroit River to Houghton Lake, down to Lake Erie on the Michigan side back up to the west side of the state on Lake Michigan.
Mark will give his forecast and share information about the upcoming Walleye 101 Trophy Hunts that you can be a part of by visiting their website at Walleye 101.com
THE TRAIL AHEAD
Next week we will be joined by noted Michigan author Richard P. Smith. We will talk about his newest book titled “Great Michigan Deer Tales: Stories Behind Michigan’s Biggest Bucks.” This is the 5th volume in this series of tales that continue to shape Michigan as one of the premier whitetail hunting destinations.
Excalibur Crossbows will make an appearance to talk about their product as we move towards Michigan’s first ever all inclusive crossbow season for zone 3 and restricted seasons for zones 1 and 2.
FINAL THOUGHTS
As the first day of September draws near and the trees are starting their transformation to Michigan’s coat of many colors, excitement fills my body as the thought of early goose season and the promise of salmon returning to the streams and rivers to deposit the future of our fishing heritage.
It also brings with it the concern I feel every day, that our busy lives have taken away the time to teach our future generations that hunting and fishing is not only a sport, but an important lesson in conservation and preservation.
With new opportunities of early goose seasons, fall turkey and the youth deer season, we are given more and more chances to teach our youth the importance of the outdoors and the benefits of all Michigan has to offer. I can only hope that you make the time to educate a young person or invite a friend to join you on the trails, woods and waters of Michigan to help keep safe the future of our outdoor heritage.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my love of the outdoors with you each and every week. I look forward to meeting you on the trail ahead!

This Weeks Show 8/1 - 8/2 2009
IT’S ABOUT TIME!
If I had a nickel for every time I started a new blog, Michigan’s unemployment rate would be down to 6%. Seriously though, believe me when I say that I feel the pain of those out of work. But the upside is, I have time to focus on the website and getting this show into every home and car radio in Michigan. There, enough complaining.
THIS WEEKS GUESTS
Having more time means a better show. I am happy to say that we have a great lineup this week and I am very proud of the show we have for you.
MI DNR Director, Rebecca Humphries- We will talk with the Michigan DNR Director to cover the new “Pure Michigan Hunt” that was unveiled by the Director and Lieutenant Governor John Cherry on Monday. Three lucky Michigan hunters will be given the opportunity of a lifetime!
Dennis Ball - USA Custom Rods - Guys love camouflage, and were finding out that ladies do too…if it’s pink. So why not a great fishing rod in Mossy Oak “Break Up” or “Duck Blind?” Or how about pink camo for the ladies? Dennis Ball will have the info on why camo is the hottest new look in fishing rods and what benefits they can provide.
Jimmy Houston - Bass Pro legend Jimmy Houston joins us for conversation on his early career start, family and we even get a few tips from the man himself. Jimmy is a hall of famer that has graced America’s television sets for over 25 years and has sent more fish off with a kiss than most anglers have caught in a lifetime. This is a fun interview that you will want to catch for yourself.
The Knife Trader - After returning home from a relaxing family vacation from Michigan’s north country, I tried to fillet a trout that my daughter caught at a kids pond in St. Ignace. After disgracing the memory of this poor fish with about three dull knives (I could have found more, but three was all I could stomach without going crazy) I thought knife sharpening techniques and products would be a good topic for discussion. Listen to what advice Don from the Knife Trader in Lansing has to offer. You can also give him a call at (517)336-9010. Let him know you heard it from AM Outdoors!
Tom Nelson - Rounding out our time, Time Nelson, Host of the American Archer television show checks in with an update from his latest trip to Africa. You can also see and talk to Tom in person at Cabela’s in Dundee, MI both Saturday and Sunday August 1st and 2nd.
Finally, I must sincerely apologize for the delay in updating the site. It needs it, I know. I will be working on it and we will be launching the new “Win My Gear” contest this month! Check out the show to find out more.
Tight lines and good hunting! I’ll see you on the trail ahead…

THE TRAIL AHEAD 2/28 - 3/1 2009
Sorry about missing last weeks listing. As Mr. Waddell put it a couple of weeks ago, “I have been busier than the tooth fairy in West Virginia.”
To our West Virginia listeners, just kidding! Waddell said it first!
Show season continues this weekend in Novi for Outdoorama. Four days instead of the week long production it used to be. But I am sure it will be every bit as good.
THIS WEEKS GUESTS
NEW PRODUCT INFO
First up this week, we speak to George Trulock from Trulock choke tubes in Whigham, Georgia.
Trulock has developed a new choketube for the Federal ammunition, Black Cloud. Personally, I am a huge fan of the tungsten and steel mix ammo, but had a hard time finding a choke tube that would work with this particular shot load.
After a bit of research (it fell in my lap) I found Trulock chokes and an interview was born.
We talk about the introduction of the choke tube and the good ol’ polychoke. Be sure to check this one out. You can never know enough about new products. www.trulockchokes.com
Talkin’ Turkey Vol. 1 with Al Stewart
This week, it’s time to talk turkey. Then we talk to our good friend, Al Stewart, from the Michigan DNR. Al is an upland game bird specialist and has been very active in the management of the wild turkey and watching their numbers flourish to numbers never before seen.
Al has also been very instrumental in the wild turkey cooperators patch program that the DNR offers and allows hunters to obtain their own one of three ways.
The first is as a successful hunter. Second, cooperator patches may be purchased directly from the DNR and last, youth may obtain a patch just for purchasing a wild turkey permit regardless of success. Find all of the information at the DNR website at www.michigan.gov/dnr.
Just a side note. Al will never tell you, but he was the recipient of the prestigious Henry S. Mosby Award at the NWTF’s national convention in Nashville, Tennessee this year. The award was presented to Al for his 30 plus years of dedication to conservation and helping others realize the enjoyment of the outdoors. I am proud to call him a friend and happy to have him on this weeks show.
OTHER TURKEY TALK
Nationally and even world renowned turkey hunter, Dick Kirby joins us on the show. Dick has recorded 26 consecutive wild turkey “Grand Slams” and a total of 55 to his credit.
Join us as he talks of his first time out turkey hunting and how it has changed his life forever to become one of the most successful turkey hunters ever.
This is a must hear for any hunter as we approach spring and the turkey seasons here in Michigan.

FROM DURAN
As we go forward through 2009, I have to say it has been a less than fun year. Many events have changed the lives of dear friends and family that we could not have foreseen.
Please know that we will continue to bring this show and more like to come for what we hope to be many years to come. I will do my best to push forward and protect the beautiful state that we live in and educate as many as will listen on the heritage of our outdoors community.
Our numbers are on rapid decline and there are many that would love to see it all go away. I personally will do all I can to defend what I love.
I have decided to bring more of the nationally known guests on the shows for this year for two reasons. The first is because as the popularity of outdoor television grows at an alarming rate, I feel that those who we allow into our living rooms can provide a more personal touch to the listener that cannot always afford :30 minutes of idle time.
The second is to allow the human side of these fine men and women be heard through fun question and answer interviews that you can’t always get from television.
I will always feature quality, Michigan guests and topics for this show. I was born here and I will probably die here. I can’t imagine a better place to be.
Thanks for listening!
